Why the Semantic Treehouse?

Semantic Treehouse is the online platform that supports the management of semantic data models. What makes Semantic Treehouse unique is that it combines the publication, maintenance and governance for your data models in one place. Semantic Treehouse is based on more than 10 years of experience with developing, maintaining and sharing data standards. The platform can be branded and styled to your corporate identity for a recognizable user experience.

Core Features

publication

Publication

Semantic Treehouse improves the accessibility and readability of your data models and their documentation. Electronic business document models like invoices, purchase orders and many other message format can be browsed using the intuitive tree viewer interface, replacing the need for publishing PDF documents when you need web accessibility to your data model. In addition, the use of (external) code lists is an integrated part of our product. Your lists are always up-to-date and can also be accessed with our API, which allows for automatic integration. The publication module offers the possibility to provide code snippets to better understand the different use cases of the data models.

Semantic Treehouse provides a single source of truth for you and your users in an user friendly online environment.

community

Community

An active user community is crucial to the adoption and success of your standardization activities. The Semantic Treehouse community module increases the involvement of your user community in the development and maintenance of the data models. It provides community members with easy access to submit change requests, review new versions and contribute to the development and maintenance of the data models. Our platform offers a private workspace for working groups, enables you to keep track of the requirements and wishes of your users and manage the community.

Semantic Treehouse enables you to actively involve the user community to develop, maintain and adopt your data models.

maintenance

Maintenance

Maintaining a (semantic) data model and all related artefacts such as change requests, code lists, example files and business/validation rules requires a lot of effort and discipline from you as a standardization body. The maintenance module enables you to keep track of changes, decisions, usage notes, and other valuable insights to build up the knowledge base about your data models. The maintenance module consists of integrated version management, change requests and review comments.

Semantic Treehouse supports your maintenance processes and provides a knowledge base that enriches your documentation.

validation

Validation

Implementing a standards-compliant API requires mapping standards data models to your own internal data structure, matching both semantic and syntactical differences, which can be challenging and error-prone. Therefore Semantic Treehouse provides integrated validation support for XML, XSD and custom business rules. Developers can select a data model, insert or upload a business document instance and check for compliancy. A detailed validation report is available to the user. The validation module can be integrated with existing automated validation solutions via the validation API.

Semantic Treehouse offers the user community the possibility to check their implementations against your data models.

The Stichting Elektronische Transacties Uitzendbranche (SETU) is developing and maintaining standards for exchange of electronic data in the staffing industry. SETU uses the Semantic Treehouse to publish all SETU standards, to facilitate the maintenance process of the standards, to involve participants via the workgroup portal and to offer users the opportunity to validate their messages against the SETU standards.

Simplerinvoicing is a system of agreements between software suppliers and e-invoice service providers, which makes it possible to exchange e-invoices between these parties. The Semantic Treehouse allows everyone to browse the Simplerinvoicing model, XML examples of elements of the model and the related codelists. Participants can contribute to the development of the model by submitting change requests.

About

For more than a decade TNO has developed and maintained semantic data models for a large variety of industries. We have deployed and supported standardization activities and have experience in all related areas, including governance, modelling, maintenance, managing a community, running a helpdesk and providing implementation support. Our hands-on experience in managing semantic data models inspired us to develop the Semantic Treehouse. Not only to support and ease our own semantic standardization activities, but to facilitate everyone who struggles with the complex task of developing and maintaining data models.

As a research organization, TNO not only focuses on the current state-of-the-art in information sharing, but also on the paradigm shift that we see happening. The business document paradigm is prevalent in many day-to-day electronic information sharing and is the foundation of the Semantic Treehouse. With the world of information sharing shifting towards Linked Data and the Semantic Web, another paradigm is appearing. The Semantic Treehouse is ready to support the transition from hierarchical message models to ontologies when the time is right and your organization is ready. TNO keeps gaining expertise in this area and we continue to invest and develop this part of the Semantic Treehouse.
